Welcome to biedw.com. I’m Brett Edwards, a business intelligence and data warehouse developer based in Brisbane, Australia.
Why biedw? Basically it’s a jumble of my own initials, acronyms of my profession and the best domain name I could come up with during a cyber Monday sale. I am sure a good business intelligence professional would argue for a more calculated approach, but sometimes going with the gut leads outcomes just as good.
Mostly though, because throughout my career I have often enough learnt the hard way by making mistakes. More often I have benefitted from the wisdom shared freely or cheaply by many others through blogs, books and conferences. I hope to share some of my own learnings here so my other BI developer colleagues may avoid the same mistakes. I like giving back to the community that I have been fortunate to be a member of.
I aim to publish here personal projects I work on to demonstrate BI tools and technologies. As well as articles on design approaches to business intelligence/data warehouse/data analytics projects. Developers tend to focus on the tools, but design is often more important. I also reserve the right to publish occasional random musings. On the topic in the title, of course.
